When it comes to social media, straight away we head towards the obvious, Facebook, Twitter, Linked In. But you should try to be different and stand out above your competitors! Make things interesting for your clients and consumers, get creative and make things visual. I'm sure you might not have thought about these platforms for your brand before, but with the progression of social media speeding at a rapid pace, it's a great idea to expand outside your comfort zone and experiment.
1. Snapchat
Snapchat is a photo messaging application for smart phones and is free to download. Users can take photos and videos, add text and filters to them and then they are able to choose the amount of time a person can see the content for.
A recent update of the app has brought about the 'Story', this adds snaps together to create a narrative, the images/videos added to one's story are only present for 24 hours and then they will be removed. We think this is the perfect way for a brand to interact with customers, by adding photos and videos to your story you can keep their interest and have them viewing what your brand offers daily. With the snaps only lasting around six seconds each, it takes little effort for a person to view as well as it being evident that people
absorb information in a number of different ways, this would target those who take notice of visuals.
Snapchat has also surpassed Facebook in the number of photos uploaded per day, proving the success of this application. Other brands have also jumped on this bandwagon with Rebecca Minkoff deciding to debut her latest fashion line through Snapchat. So, give this innovative idea a go and join in with the fun of this latest social media blast.
2. Instagram
People spend hours scrolling through Instagram accounts when they have inspiring and beautiful imagery. So it's a great idea to build up your presence on this site and have people spending hours gazing through your pictures! You may be thinking, 'but what pictures would I post?' Some ideas may be behind the scenes shots of what you are working on, photos of the 'team' working and smiling, letting your customers get to know the faces behind the brand. It could be letting people know what your day at work is looking like, new exciting events or launches?
Instagram has hit 200 million users, growing its user base by 50 million over the past six months, it's evident that this platform will keep on expanding and is closely catching up with the likes of Twitter.
3. Vine
Vine is another mobile application, this allows you to upload a video clip that lasts six seconds. Vines have become increasingly viral, even across all other social networking sites, with Instagram even having an account called 'Best Vines'.
With the clip only having to last six seconds it's more than easy to post one of these daily to spike the attention of customers and clients. Try thinking out of the box here, this vine doesn't have to relate to your brand in anyway, it can just be interesting for people to look at. Most of the best adverts had nothing to do with the product being sold, we are thinking the Cadbury's Gorilla or the Sony Bravia bouncing balls advert, all we want is for people to enjoy the content they are being shown and then they will take interest in the brand or company that has posted this due to the amusement they received from the video.
Give one of these a try-out and see where it may take you, to attract people to your brand or company in this society, the need of social media is essential, get imaginative and expand your online presence further.
